UH soccer team eliminated from postseason contention
The Hawaii women’s soccer team was eliminated from contention for the Big West Conference tournament with a 2-1 loss to UC Davis on Friday night at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
It was the fourth straight conference defeat for UH (6-10, 1-5 Big West).
After the match, UH honored outgoing players Krystal Pascua, Hayden Gibson, Alexis Colacchio, Korinne Estrada, Ashley Haruki and Olivia Stanford.
UH sophomore midfielder Storm Kenui squared the match at 1-1 in the 27th minute on a shot from 20 yards out, but the Aggies (5-10-3, 2-3-2) scored on a penalty kick — the second awarded to the visitors in the span of just a few seconds of game time — to retake the lead in the 31st minute.
Neither team managed to net a goal in the second half, even with UH posting a 13-5 advantage in shots.
The Wahine have two road matches remaining, but even should they win both, they cannot finish in the top four of the conference standings and advance to the league tournament.
