Hawaii woman the official artist for National Cherry Blossom Festival
Jing Jing Tsong from Hawaii island has been named the official artist for the 2015 National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington D.C.
Tsong created her winning, original composition depicting landmarks in the nation’s capital amid colorful cherry blossoms using traditional and digital techniques.
The artwork will be part of the official poster and merchandise.
“I remember springtime as a rich sensory experience,” Tsong said, in a statement. “In the artwork, I tried to capture the idea of nature ‘waking up’ from a long winter slumber with song and color, the branches of the tree reaching out to embrace the warmth of the season.”
Tsong’s images have been featured in national and international design magazines including “Graphis” and “Communication Arts.” Her illustrations appear in “A Bucket of Blessings,” a New York Times bestseller by Kabir Seghal and Surishtha Seghal, as well as in two “Forever” stamps issued by the U.S. Postal Service earlier this month.
