2 Asian visitors run into trouble snorkeling at Hanauma Bay
Lifeguards rescued two snorkelers who ran into trouble Saturday about 60 yards offshore of Hanauma Bay.
At about 3 p.m., lifeguards were notified by a swimmer of a woman in her 60s who appeared to be in trouble and brought her back to shore on a paddle board, a Honolulu Emergency Services spokeswoman said. The lifeguards performed CPR on the woman, who regained consciousness and was talking.
About the same time, lifeguards responded to a man in his 60s not breathing in the water. Lifeguards brought the man back to shore and performed CPR on him, reviving his pulse.
Paramedics took the man in critical condition to the hospital. The woman was also taken to the hospital in serious condition.
The spokeswoman said the two patients are visiting from Asia and appear to be related.
