Magnitude 3.8 earthquake centered north of Kailua-Kona
An earthquake north of Kailua-Kona was widely felt on the west side of the Big Island Monday morning.
The earthquake, 5 miles west-northwest of Kalaoa and 8 miles north-northwest of Kailua-Kona, was estimated at a magnitude 3.8. It struck at 5:39 a.m. at a depth of 6.8 miles.
The earthquake did not generate a tsunami alert.
Responses on the U.S. Geological Survey’s “Did you feel it?” website were mostly from the Kailua-Kona and Kealakekua areas. But it was als felt in Holualoa, Waikoloa, Kamuela and Captain Cook.
No damage was immediately reported.
