3 Waipahu men charged in cellphone robbery
Prosecutors charged three Waipahu men, ages 19 and two 18-year-olds, for allegedly stealing a cellphone Monday night from a 35-year-old man in Waipahu. A 17-year-old boy was also arrested, but was not charged.
Police said an 18-year-old man took a cellphone out of the man’s hand and ran.
The victim chased the suspect and caught up to him, but two other men got out of a waiting vehicle and allegedly assaulted him.
Police arrested them on suspicion of second-degree robbery at 11:55 p.m. Monday. Other offenses included weapon and drug offenses.
Austin Aetonu, 19, and Justin Figueroa and Berechaiah Fuataga, both 18, were charged with second-degree robbery.
Fuataga’s bail was set at $20,000. Bail for the other two were set at $11,000.
