BYU-Hawaii eliminated in DII volleyball regional semifinal


Senior All-American hitter Shih Ting “Stella” Chen put down a match-high 23 kills but it was not enough as No. 9 Brigham Young-Hawaii saw its season end Friday night against Dixie State 25-19, 25-16, 15-25, 25-19 in the NCAA DII West Regional semifinal in Nampa, Idaho.

Lindsey Jones had 15 kills and Kendahl Welland added 13 for the Red Storm, which had lost twice to the Seasiders during PacWest Conference play. Dixie State (22-8) will play Sonoma State in Saturday’s championship; the Seawolves swept Cal State San Bernardino, 27-25, 25-22, 25-17 in the first semifinal. 

Senior middle Erh Fang “Ariel” Hsu added 11 kills and Chen finished her career with her 19th double-double of the season with 15 digs for BYUH (22-6).
