Kauai state judge Randal G.B. Valenciano sentenced James Pflueger, center, to seven month in jail and five years of probation for his role in the deaths of seven people who were swept to their deaths in the Ka Loko dam breach.

Retired car dealer James Pflueger was released today from the Kauai Community Correctional Center and placed under house arrest after serving 1 1/2 months in jail for the deaths of seven people swept away in the 2006 Ka Loko Dam breach.

Pflueger had been sentenced to seven months.

State prison head Ted Sakai said he made the decision based on the recommendation of a corrections department physician who has been observing Pflueger’s health.

Sakai said the state was unable to medically care for Pflueger, 89, who will have permission to leave his house only for medical care.
