Woman found dead on hike in Big Isle’s Waipio Valley
Big Island fire rescue personnel recovered the body of a missing hiker in a river leading to Hiilawe Falls on Sunday.
The hiker, described as a 22-year-old woman, was last seen on a trail leading to the falls around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The woman was hiking with a group of friends in Waipio Valley when she became separated.
The body was found in about five feet of water approximately 200 yards above the abandoned tea house restaurant.
Firefighters airlifted the body from the area.
