Waikoloa among top rising destinations

Area hoteliers may feel their properties have already arrived, nevertheless, online travel site TripAdvisor.com has named Waikoloa, on Hawaii island, the 8th-ranked “Destination on the Rise” in the U.S.
The overall winner was Wildwood, N.J., followed by second-ranked Nags Head, N. Carolina; Prescott, Arizona; Telluride, Colo., fifth-ranked Pompano Beach, Fla., Traverse City, Mich., No. 7 Avalon, Calif., Waikoloa, Knoxville, Tenn., and tenth-ranked Gulf Shores, Ala.
The top international winner was Da Nang, Vietnam.
TripAdvisor created its lists of Destinations on the Rise by measuring year-over-year increases in resort destinations’ popularity based on positive reviews of accommodations, restaurants and attractions.
Lists were created for the U.S., the world, and for regions including Asia, Europe, South America and the South Pacific.
