A 22-year-old Kalaheo woman is hospitalized after a single-vehicle crash on Kaumualii Highway in Kipu on Kauai Saturday morning.

The woman was traveling near the Kauai Humane Society when the Nissan SUV she was driving veered off the road and struck a guard rail and utility pole.

She was transported to Wilcox Hospital with critical injuries. She was then medevaced to Honolulu for further treatment.

Kaumualii Highway was closed in both directions until 6:30 a.m. while police conducted an investigation.
