Prosecutors on Tuesday charged a 30-year-old man with second-degree attempted murder in the stabbing of a 23-year-old woman in a Kailua home invasion Sunday afternoon.

In addition to attempted murder, Chauncey Ingraham also was charged with first-degree burglary, and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.

Ingraham allegedly broke in and was apparently burglarizing a residence on Kaikea Place, near Kainalu Elementary School, when the woman returned home, police said.

He then allegedly attacked her.

An Emergency Services Department spokeswoman said the victim was taken to an area hospital in serious condition with multiple stab wounds.

Ingraham allegedly fled in a stolen car and was caught an hour later at a Waimanalo strip mall, police said. His bail was set at $200,000.

In a previous case, Ingraham was arrested June 6, 2013, on suspicion of fourth-degree criminal property damage at the Kapolei Ross Dress for Less store.

He was found unfit to proceed to trial, and considered a risk of danger to himself and others, according to online state court records. He was committed to the custody of the state, but was re-evaluated and found fit for proceedings in October 2013. He ultimately served 10 days in jail.

And on May 15, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest for allegedly entering a closed public park. A criminal citation was filed May 2.
