Driver loses arm in collision on Kauai

The driver of a Nissan Altima severed his arm in a collision in Hanalei Friday night, Kauai County police reported.

The man was driving south on Kuhio Highway in Hanalei at about 6:20 p.m.

He was heading south with his arm out the window when he crossed the centerline and sideswiped a northbound vehicle.

The collision cut off his arm.

The man continued south and stopped at the Hanalei police substation.

He was transported to Wilcox Hospital, and then airlifted to Oahu for further treatment.

It was unclear what happened to the arm.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision also stopped at the police substation. He was not injured.
