Coast Guard medevacs ailing fishing vessel crew member
The Coast Guard says it medevaced a 29-year-old fishing vessel crewmember who was having chest pains off Oahu.
Coast Guard officials say a helicopter crew hoisted the man from the vessel Lady Karen Sunday morning about 92 miles southwest of Oahu. The helicopter crew transported the man to Queens Medical Center in Honolulu.
The Coast Guard says the fishing vessel crew contacted watchstanders at the Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center Friday evening.
The Lady Karen crew asked about medical assistance for a crew member with a heart condition, and a Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended a 12-hour communications schedule.
According to the Coast Guard, the man’s condition worsened and the flight surgeon recommended a medevac.
