The U.S. and Hawaii flags fly at half-staff today in front of the Honolulu Circuit Court building in Honolulu.

Flags are flying at half-staff in honor of the late former Hawaii state Rep. Alvin T. Amaral.

Hawaii Gov. David Ige issued the order for Wednesday, when Amaral’s memorial service will be held.

Ige said Amaral was a pillar in the Maui community. He said Amaral’s dedication to the people of Hawaii will be missed, and he sent condolences to his family and friends.

Amaral served in the Hawaii State House of Representatives from 1973 to 1976. He was on the Maui County Council the next two years.

Amaral was a delegate to the 1968 Hawaii State Constitutional Convention and the 1976 Republican National Convention. He was born in Maui.

All state offices and agencies and the Hawaii National Guard are asked to follow the order from sunrise until sunset.
