Hawaii County firefighters Tuesday rescued a 68-year-old woman who fell eight feet off a cliff along the shoreline at Keawaeli Bay in the North Kohala area.

Acting Battalion Chief Joe Farias said the woman was a visitor who was part of a all-terrain vehicle sightseeing tour group.

The woman apparently lost her footing while standing on uneven ground while looking out toward the ocean, the Hawaii County Fire Department reported. She fell 8 feet and landed on rocks below.

The accident occurred just before 12:53 p.m. at Keawaeli Bay off Old Halaula Mill Road, northwest of the Halaula Lighthouse. The first unit was on scene at 1 p.m.

She was airlifted by helicopter and transferred to medic personnel, who transported her to the North Hawaii Community Hospital with neck pain.
