Coast Guard holds cyber security exercise at UH-Manoa
The U.S. Coast Guard is holding a cyber security exercise at the University of Hawaii’s Manoa campus this week.
The university said Wednesday one of the objectives is to examine how an attack on information technology infrastructure would affect port operations and the maritime industry.
The school partnered with the Coast Guard and a committee of government officials to develop the exercise. It focuses on Hawaii’s container cargo distribution system.
UH President David Lassner said says the Coast Guard and university share a common goal of minimizing the cybercrime.
Hawaii-based maritime partners are participating in the exercise along with others from California, Texas and federal government agencies.
The university set up a cyber range in 2013 to train people to defend computer systems from attack.
