Ige releases $4 million for Waimea park improvements

KAILUA-KONA >> Improvements are planned for the Waimea District Regional Park with $4 million released by Gov. David Ige.

West Hawaii Today reports the money is coming from general obligation bond funds appropriated by Hawaii lawmakers. Matching funds are being provided by Hawaii County.

The funds will be used to implement phase 1 of the master-planned 50-acre park that will feature recreational activities including soccer, baseball and football. Also planned are a community gymnasium, multipurpose building and a trail system.

The first phase is intended to cover 24 acres. The second phase would add 26 acres and convert the area into a regional park.
