Kenyan runner stripped of Calgary Marathon win for doping

CALGARY, Alberta » Calgary Marathon women’s winner Emily Chepkorir has been disqualified for doping.

The Kenyan tested positive for the steroid Nandrolone at races in Guatamala on Jan. 26 and Mexico on March 2, which made her ineligible to compete in the June 1 race in Calgary, the Calgary Marathon Society said Thursday. Her two-year suspension ends April 5, 2016.

The IAAF, the world’s governing body of track and field, announced last week that Chepkorir was among eight Kenyan runners guilty of major doping violations.

Calgary’s Maria Zambrano was declared the winner. She finished in 2 hours, 52 minutes, 44 seconds.
