Lava breakout widens, but does not advance

USGS / HAWAIIAN VOLCANO OBSERVAORY
This map created on Feb. 19 shows the active lava breakouts in red. A breakout on the north, behind the stalled fronts, advanced about 112 yards over the weekend.

A sluggish, but active lava breakout about a mile upslope of Highway 130 in Pahoa widened, but did not advance overnight.

The breakout along the north margin of the flow advanced about 22 yards on Sunday and 90 yards on Saturday.

A Monday Civil Defense overflight also showed some activity on the south margin of the flow.

The former flow fronts above the Pahoa Police and Fire stations and Apaa Road remained stalled.

Lava breakouts are active about 2 miles northeast of Puu Oo at the forest boundary and west of the Kaohe Homesteads.

Civil Defense officials said the current lava activity does not pose an immediate threat to residents.
