2 women in critical condition after separate near-drowning incidents
Two women were found unresponsive in Hanauma Bay waters Monday in separate apparent near-drowning incidents.
Both women, ages 56 and 70, were listed in critical condition after being rescued, according to Emergency Medical Services reports.
Ocean Safety lifeguards found the older woman, who had apparently been snorkeling, unresponsive in waist deep water roughly 10 yards offshore, floating face down at about 1:45 p.m.
Lifeguards brought her onto the shoreline, where they administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation and applied an Automated External Defibrillator and administered one shock. EMS paramedics took over with advanced lifesaving treatment and transported the woman in critical condition to an emergency room.
Ocean Safety officers found the younger woman not breathing and without pulse in waters about 40 yards from shore at about 10:15 a.m. Officers brought her to a beach area and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, which revived her, Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said.
Paramedics administered advanced life support treatment and transported the woman to a hospital, EMS said.
