Waikiki zipline moves forward
The state Board of Land and Natural Resources approved a right of entry permit on Friday paving the way for a beach-activity operator to proceed with its plans to bring the first zipline to Waikiki.
The permit gives Waikiki Beach Activities Ltd. permission to begin a six-month pilot operation. The company, which is the exclusive pool and beach service provider for Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort, said it expects to become operational on June 1.
The 1,000-foot zipline, which has been approved by Hilton, will run from the top of the hotel’s six-story parking garage traveling over the Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon and ending in a public parking lot.
The company, which successfully completed its first test ride in December, said ridership could hit 250,000 a year.
