No. 3 USC swept No. 1 Hawaii 5-0 in a sand volleyball dual match Wednesday night at the T.C. Ching Complex courts.

The Women of Troy (4-0) only dropped two sets to the SandBows (4-1), at Nos. 1 and 3. The final two pairs contests were televised live, the first time in the history of the sport at the collegiate level.

USC’s Sara Hughes-Kelly Claes held off Hawaii’s Brittany Tiegs-Nikki Taylor at No. 1, 21-16, 19-21, 15-10, and Eve Ettinger-Meg Norton turned back Sammie Brown-Hannah Rooks, 21-17, 17-21, 15-9

It was the inaugural match at the new on-campus courts for Hawaii, which next hosts its inaugural Queen of the Beach Friday at Queen’s Beach and Saturday at the Ching Complex. Joining the SandBows and Women of Troy are Cal and Nebraska.
