State unemployment rate in February held at 4.1%

Dave Segal

Hawaii’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 4.1 percent in February as nonfarm payroll jobs decreased by 1,200 from the previous month, according to data released Wednesday by the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.

The report comes just nine days after the release of January numbers — an annual occurrence due to revisions that the state does at the start of each year.

Professional and business services had the biggest contraction with 1,000 jobs lost, primarily in temporary help services and professional employer organizations.

Nationally, the unemployment rate, which was announced earlier this month, fell two-tenths of a point to 5.5 percent in February.
