Hawaii defeats Pacific in sand volleyball
No. 2 Hawaii won three of five contests in straight sets and two others that went to three en route to a 4-1 victory over Pacific in Thursday’s collegiate sand volleyball match at Stockton, Calif.
The only loss for the SandBows (7-1) came at No. 4 when the Tigers’ Kimmy Whitson and Alicia Will rallied for a 21-18, 14-21, 15-10 win over Lara Schreiber and Mikayla Tucker. UOP dropped to 7-5.
All-Americans Nikki Taylor-Brittany Tiegs won at No. 1, 21-17, 21-16; All-Ameircan Katie Spieler and new partner Olivia Urban won at No. 2, 21-10, 21-8; Sammie Brown-Hannah Rooks rallied at No. 3, 20-22, 21-16, 15-9; and London Chow-Ka’iwi Schucht came back for a 21-18, 10-21, 15-11 victory.
Hawaii next travels to the Santa Cruz (Calif.) Collegiate Challenge Saturday and Sunday on Main Beach. Also competing are co-hosts Santa Clara and USF, Cal, Cal Poly and Cal State Bakersfield.
