Prosecutors: Waikiki stabbing was self-defense
City prosecutors declined to charge a 39-year-old Washington man with attempted murder because it appears the man was acting in self-defense.
A fight at a Waikiki hotel Tuesday sent a 38-year-old man to the hospital in serious condition with multiple stab wounds to his upper body, police and paramedics said.
The evidence supports the suspect’s statement that he was defending himself, the prosecutor’s office said.
The incident occurred at the Waikiki Sands Resort on Nohonani Street.
Officers initially arrested the suspect, who listed a Puyallup, Wash., address, on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder.
He is no longer in police custody.
