Man charged in actions that prompted officer-involved shooting
Hawaii island police Monday charged a Puna man whose alleged actions on Friday resulted in an officer-involved shooting in Puna.
Daesyn Pacheco-Muragin, 24, of Mountain View was charged with two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, one count of second-degree reckless endangering, three counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, two counts of third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia and a weapons offense. His bail was set at $102,000.
According to police, a Puna patrol officer drove toward a suspicious car at the end of Mokuna Street in the Royal Hawaiian Estates subdivision about 1 p.m. Friday. The car, drove directly toward the officer’s vehicle, swerving at the last moment before fleeing.
The car continued north into oncoming traffic on the southbound lane of Highway 11 in the Mountain View area, where it proceeded through an active road construction site and directly toward an officer who was directing traffic. The officer fired three shots, striking the car as it drove away toward Hilo.
