Lingerie chain shutters shops including Pearlridge store
Los Angeles-based Frederick’s of Hollywood Group Inc. has closed all of its retail stores, including the Pearlridge Center location.
The retailer’s website indicates it no longer has store locations and will conduct business online only.
The Pearlridge store’s last day of operation was Sunday, according to Fred Paine, mall general manager.
For a period of time in the mid-2000s the Frederick’s at Pearlridge Center was the “number-one store in the country,” even outselling the flagship Hollywood store, Paine said, citing a real estate representative’s comments at the time.
Nevertheless, on a corporate level, “this is a bankruptcy situation, there is nothing Pearlridge can do,” Paine said, indicating the legal team of the mall’s parent company would likely be handling the matter with Frederick’s parent company.
Frederick’s opened at Pearlridge in 1980 to great fanfare after years of Hawaii residents only being able to purchase the often-risque lingerie from a printed catalog, or during a mainland trip.
