A tornado was spotted by air traffic control tower personnel at Kalaeloa Airport on Thursday afternoon.
A National Weather Service forecaster said it was not visible on radar or any other systems, but appears to be a funnel cloud over land, and it reached the ground, making it a tornado.
The weather service called it a brief landspout.
It was reported at 2:56 p.m. near Kapolei.
Other people reported seeing it from Waipio and Mililani.
