Police arrested a 75-year-old Hawaii Kai man for allegedly striking a pedestrian Monday while driving a pickup truck near the Makapuu Lookout.

The suspect was driving a pickup truck when it veered off the road and struck a 43-year-old Honolulu man, critically injuring him, at 3:07 p.m.

Police said the victim suffered massive leg injuries, and one of his legs was severed.

Police said the man was loading items into his SUV on the side of Kalanianaole Highway near the lookout when it happened.

The suspect was released pending investigation.
