Keiki Carlos’ grand slam in the second inning sent the University of Hawaii softball team to a 7-1 win over UC Davis in Saturday’s season finale at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Heather Morales also homered for UH in support of pitcher Brittany Hitchcock, who took a shutout into the seventh and earned the complete-game victory.
The Rainbow Wahine closed the season at 32-22 overall and finished third in the Big West at 13-8.
Tayana Mata scored Rachel Lack from second with a single to left field and went around to third on an error. Dori Ann Sugai and Kayla Wartner walked to load the bases and Carlos hit her eighth home run of the season to give the Wahine a 5-0 lead.
Morales led off the bottom of the fifth with a homer to left and Leisha Li’ili’i, singled down the right field line in her final UH at-bat, scored on Ulu Matagiese’s double.
UH seniors Jordan Burton, Kayla Wartner and Li’ili’i and team manager Justine Tjaden were honored after the senior day game.
