Fire destroys Waipahu home, 9 residents displaced

    Fire investigators looked at the remains of a residence after a house fire at 94-146 Awamoku Street in Waipahu on Wednesday.

A fire destroyed a home in Waipahu, displacing 9 people who lived there.

Honolulu Fire Capt. David Jenkins said the single-family, one-story house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire and estimated damage at the residence, 94-146 Awamoku St.,  are under investigation.

Some 10 fire companies with 35 firefighters were able to control the blaze about 25 minutes after the blaze was reported at 10:58 a.m., Jenkins said.
