A 24-year-old man was in serious condition Saturday after falling about 40 feet while hiking near Makapuu, a Honolulu Emergency Services Department spokeswoman said.
The man fell 30 to 40 feet about 12:15 p.m. between Pele’s Chair and Makapuu tide pools.
Lifeguards treated the man and firefighters picked him up by helicopter and took him to an Emergency Medical Service crew staged at Sandy Beach.
EMS took the man to a hospital.
