Police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a 57-year-old woman and left a 13-year-old girl in serious condition on Sunday in Makaha.

Police located the man Sunday morning after the Farrington Highway crash fronting Keaau Beach Park and arrested him for investigation of fleeing the scene of a deadly crash, first-degree negligent homicide, and driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

Police said the man was driving a vehicle Honolulu-bound on Farrington about 5 a.m. when he left the roadway and struck the woman and girl as they walked outside the makai side of the road.

The driver continued heading Honolulu-bound and fled the scene.

Police said the woman died at the scene and the girl was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition.

The man was later found and his vehicle was recovered as evidence, police said.

It was the 23rd traffic fatality this year compared to 25 at this time last year on Oahu.
