Body found in Hilo stream identified as Kailua-Kona woman
Hawaii island police identified the woman found partially submerged in Umauma Stream in Hilo on Monday as Bobbie Jackie Carnathan of Kailua-Kona.
Carnathan, 62, was identified through fingerprints. Her body was discovered in the stream on Monday at about 11:30 a.m. She had been reported missing on Saturday.
An autopsy determined that she died from traumatic injuries consistent with a fall from a height.
Police do not suspect foul play, but continue to investigate the death, which is classified as a coroner’s inquest. Witnesses who may have seen Carnathan on a “Hele On” bus or who had contact with her at the World Botanical Gardens and Waterfalls park in Hakalau are asked to contact Det. Dean Uyetake at 961-2379 or dean.uyetake@hawaiicounty.gov.
