Smoke billowed out from vents on the roof of the Makai Market Food Court at Ala Moana Center on Friday afternoon.

The fire that prompted Friday’s evacuation of Makai Market at Ala Moana Center resulted in $700,000 of damage to the property and its contents, according to the Honolulu Fire Department.

HFD spokesperson Capt. Kevin Mokulehua said Sbarro, Senor Pepe and Lahaina Chicken Co. sustained the most damage.

The fire was first reported at 2:37 p.m. It was considered contained at 4:27 p.m. and extinguished by 4:46 p.m.

Ala Moana security evacuated the entire food court area as well as businesses directly above on the mall and third floor levels.

No serious injuries were reported but two security guards were treated and for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
