UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. >> Jason Day needed medical attention after collapsing as he was wrapping up his second round at the U.S. Open.

The three-time PGA Tour winner, who has been dealing with symptoms of vertigo for a while, was 3 under for the championship when he was approaching the 9th green, his last hole of the day.

Day suddenly collapsed to his left, hitting his head on the ground.

The Australian remained flat on his back for several minutes while medical staff tended to him. He finally got up, a bit shakily, and chose to continue his round.

He climbed gingerly into the greenside bunker and hit out as the gallery cheered. He two-putted for bogey to finish 2 under, tied for 11th place.
