A car hit a fire hydrant early Sunday morning, sending a gusher of water into the air and waking up residents.

The accident happened at about 3:40 a.m. near the intersection of  Spencer and Alapai streets.

There were no immediate reports of serious injuries.

Laurie Tanoura, who sent a photo of the hydrant to Staradvertiser.com, said the crash woke her up and “sounded like a gunshot.”
