Host Chaminade will play national power Kansas in the Nov. 23 opening round of the 2015 Maui Jim Invitational basketball tournament, it was announced Tuesday.
“We look at it as a challenge and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Silversword coach Eric Bovaird said during a media conference call.
Other first-round games in the three-day event at the Lahaina Civic Center match Vanderbilt-St. John’s, Indiana-Wake Forest and UCLA-Nevada-Las Vegas.
Chaminade, an NCAA Division II member, was 12-14 last season while Kansas was 27-9. It will be the Silverswords’ third meeting with the Jayhawks. Kansas won 89-62 in 1987 and 102-54 in 2005.
The Silverswords have won seven games in the 31-year history of the tournament.
The event will be shown by ESPN.
