Brush fire burns 15 acres in Lihue
Kauai firefighters continued to mop up hot spots Sunday morning from a brush fire near Nawiliwili Road in Lihue that burned nearly 15 acres.
The fire did not damage any homes or structures and no injuires were reported, a Kauai County spokeswoman said in a news release.
The fire broke out at about 5:30 a.m. Firefighters from Lihue, Kapaa, Kalaheo and the Fire Department Helicopter contained the blaze at about 6:50 a.m. and brought it under control at 7:05 a.m.
Police closed Niumalu Road between Waapa Road and Nawiliwili Road to allow crews acess to the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
