Fire continues in remote wilderness above Wahiawa
The Department of Land and Natural Resources is battling a brush fire in a remote area of the Ewa Forest Reserve Sunday.
Honolulu firefighters initially responded to the call of the fire burning about a mile above California Avenue in Wahiawa at 4:01 p.m. Saturday.
Fire Capt. David Jenkins said the fire burned about 25 acres in "very steep and rugged terrain."
Since the fire is burning on state land, the DNLR took the lead in fighting the fire.
A crew went up to the fire Sunday and a helicopter planned to do water drops said DNLR spokeswoman Deborah Ward.
The Honolulu Fire Department helicopter assisted.
