Saipan residents get emergency relief following typhoon

Food, water and other emergency supplies are heading to Saipan as island residents grapple with damage caused by Typhoon Soudelor.

The Pacific Daily News reports many houses lost roofs and parts of the island lost access to water and power. The Northern Marianas government reported to the Federal Emergency Management Agency that 464 residents are staying in schools and other public facilities.

Northern Marianas congressional delegate Gregorio Sablan said Hawaii and Guam are sending cots and generators among their supplies. The two islands are also raising money for relief efforts.

Guam National Guard members, the Guam Power Authority and the Coast Guard are also providing aid.
