ANCHORAGE, Alaska >> One body has been recovered from the site of a landslide in southeast Alaska, and the search continues for two other men believed killed.

State emergency response spokesman Jeremy Zidek tells the Alaska Dispatch News that crews recovered a body Wednesday night near the home under construction that was engulfed by the landslide. The body hasn’t been identified.

The building inspector for the city of Sitka and two construction-worker brothers were believed to be buried under tons of logs and mud when the landslide crashed into the site Tuesday.

Recovery efforts have been hampered by unstable ground.

The Dispatch News reports that workers cleared 25 yards of the slide Wednesday, working from the less dangerous uphill side, but couldn’t provide an estimate of its total size.
