A fire burned a single-story home in Waiehu on Sunday morning and displaced seven people, causing $800,000 in damage.

Firefighters were trying to determine the cause of a Waiehu house fire on Sunday that displaced seven people and caused $800,000 in damage.

Maui Fire Department spokesman Edward Taomoto said the fire began in a single-story home on Lekeona Loop about 7:50 a.m. Sunday.

Six people were home at the time, and everyone got out safely, including two children and an elderly man who were pulled out of a bedroom window by family members, Taomoto said. The family dog also was not hurt.

The American Red Cross was assisting the family of four adults and three children.

The fire started near a laundry room, but the cause remained undetermined.

Damage was estimated at $500,000 to the structure and $300,000 to the contents.
