Between 30 and 40 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from a leaking fuel tanker across more than a mile of roadway near Campbell Industrial Park on Monday afternoon.

The spill, originating from an 80-gallon fuel tank, was reported at 4:34 p.m. and the Honolulu Fire Department responded with 10 companies staffed by 36 personnel. The Coast Guard and state Department of Transportation were also notified.

Police closed Malakole Street, between Kalaeloa Boulevard and Oihana Street.

Firefighters used dykes and 55 bags of absorbent to control and collect the spill at the tanker truck and the roadway. DOT contractors handled the rest of the clean up.

No injuries were reported.
