The top section of the spear broken off the King Kamehameha statue in Hilo has been found in overgrowth on the banks of a channel that runs behind the statue.
Hawaii island police said the top of the spear was recovered as authorities conducted an on-scene investigation Tuesday, conducting checks in the channel behind the statue.
Police said the spear segment is being processed for evidence, and detectives are still checking nearby businesses and buildings for possible surveillance video.
The public is being asked to help police identify who is responsible for vandalism. Anyone with information should contact Det. Sandor Finkey at 961-2384 or email him at email@example.com.
