U.S. stays unbeaten with 3-set win over Tunisia at World Cup

OSAKA, Japan >> The United States beat Tunisia 25-14, 25-19, 27-25 on Friday to remain in first place at the men’s volleyball World Cup.

Matt Anderson had a match-high 22 points as the U.S. improved to 8-0 for 24 points.

The U.S. has lost only two sets in eight matches.

World champion Poland also improved to 8-0 with a 25-15, 25-22, 25-17 win over Australia. Poland is in second place, trailing the U.S. having conceded more sets.

In other matches, Maxim Mikhaylov scored 16 points as defending champion Russia coasted to a 25-20, 26-24, 25-18 win over Egypt to improve to a 7-1 record with 21 points.

Italy overpowered Venezuela 25-16, 25-22, 25-19 and also has a 7-1.

Argentina beat Canada 25-21, 23-25, 29-27, 25-22 and is in fifth place with a 6-2 record.

Two berths for the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro are available in the 12-nation tournament that runs to Sept. 23.
