A preliminary magnitude 6.9 earthquake off the coast of Sorong, Indonesia Thursday morning does not pose a tsunami threat to Hawaii, according to officials at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The quake struck 18 miles north of Sorong at 5:53 a.m. Hawaii time at a depth of 39.9 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

No injuries were immediately reported.
