High school cancels football games amid police investigation
SWAMPSCOTT, Mass. >> School officials in northeastern Massachusetts have canceled a varsity football game after police say members of the team are being investigated for hazing.
Swampscott police say they saw dozens of young men while responding to a complaint that some youths were having a bonfire at the Swampscott High School practice field Friday night.
Students tell WCVB-TV that five players were doing jumping jacks and push-ups naked. A senior at the school says the tradition has been going on for over a decade and that no one was forced to do anything.
The school’s superintendent says Thursday’s freshman team game was also called off while officials review the incident. She says no adults were present at the time and that the district does not comment on ongoing investigations.
