Firefighters put out blaze at Chaminade

Fire investigators have determined a malfunctioning ventilation system near a kiln caused an early morning fire near Chaminade University’s fine arts building.

Nine fire companies and 32 firefighters responded to the two-alarm fire at 1:56 a.m. at 3140 Waialae Ave. The fire was brought under control at 2:14 a.m.

One faculty member was in the one-story building at the time of the fire and escaped without injury.

The structure containing the kiln did sustain some fire damage.

A damage estimate of the structure was not available.
