Trio of comedians will ring in New Year in Hawaii

STAR-ADVERTISER / DEC. 31

Bill Maher has come to Hawaii annually since 2011 to welcome the new year, performing a New Year’s Eve show in Honolulu and a New Year’s Day show on Maui.

For his fifth trip to the islands, Maher is bringing reinforcements. Veteran comedians David Spade and Jeffrey Ross will join him this year for "Mahermegeddon" on Dec. 31 at the Blaisdell Concert Hall and Jan. 1 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. Both shows start at 7:30 p.m.

Maher is known for his political brand of humor, as featured on two shows he has hosted over the past 22 years, "Politically Incorrect" and "Real Time." The latter is in its 13th season on HBO.

"I think everybody wants to be in Hawaii in December," Maher said in a release. "That was my plan all year; get my ass booked there for New Year’s!"

Spade first gained national notice when he joined the cast of "Saturday Night Live" in 1990. After six seasons on "SNL, Spade went on to star in the sitcoms "Just Shoot Me" and "Rules of Engagement," as well as in several feature films.

Ross is known as "The Roastmaster General," a title he established as producer and roaster on many of Comedy Central’s celebrity roasts.

Tickets for both shows go on sale for kamaaina only on Thursday at 10 a.m. Additional presales will be held a day later, with sales to the general public starting at 10 a.m. on Oct. 16. Prices start at $45.50 for the Blaisdell show and $79.50 for Maui plus service fees. For the Oahu show, tickets will be available on ticketmaster.com, at the Blasdell box office or by calling (800) 745-3000. For the MACC, tickets will be for sale at mauiarts.org, the venue box office or by phone at (808) 242-7469.
